Quick tube top repurpose

I am not a fan of tube tops and yet I own a couple of them. So the other day I was going through my clothes and decided that I should use them for a better cause....into a skirt for my baby.

I cut the top in half.
Cut of a couple of inches on both sides (I measured against a pair of shorts that fits my baby)
Sewed the 2 pieces together

Serged around the bottom (I did this if 5 min so the edge was not cut straight. I am going to fix it with rolled serged hem). But one could just as easily turn the edge under and sew around it to finish it off
and finished. It was supper easy and really cute! I especially love the tie that was already there

Girls Dresses

We just got family pictures taken. They turned out really great. The photographer did a really grand job!

I volunteered to make the girls dresses (I don't remember what got into me). So I followed the Itty Bitty Dress pattern again and that other skirt pattern that I have done several times now.

So the two babies got the itty bitty dress but enlarged.

The older girls got the skirts.

I cut everything out for the skirts and then realized that I was short 1 skirt panel. So I found the smaller flower print in my stash and improvised another skirt! It turned out ok except the bottom white band should have been cut on an angle at the ends instead of straight thats why is pulls in at the bottom. I think they turned out adorable!

Womans Shirt to Toddler Dress

I bought this shirt ages ago. I always liked the color but don't like to wear leggings because my hubby hates them on adults and I have never had a shirt to go with it (under or over to make it more modest)
So a few days ago I said to heck with it. I made it work. I cut off about 6-8 inches at the bottom (it was really long like halfway down my thigh) and sewed around it to make it more levi wearable. It was cute, a little to wide for my liking but great. But I forgot to take pictures now it is in the bottom of the clothes hamper so I might get to it later.
So late last night my 3 yr old just was not tired so decided to use the rest of the fabric that I cut off to make a skirt for her for church today.

I cut up one of my other old downeast basic shirts that is faded and stained and used it for the top part of the skirt. It worked out great I think. I tried to use all the factory sewn edges to make it a quicker project and it turned out great.

Cardboard Doll House

In Cookie magazine there was a really cute DIY Doll House I decided to make with my 3yr old. You can find it here. They used foam board, but I did not have any on hand, so we used cardboard instead. It worked great. We did the basic structure the same as Cookie so you can follow their instructions.

See the cut halfway down the middle that is how we put it together.

Then we painted on elmers glue.

Then we stuck scrapbook paper to the cardboard. We used the line that we cut as a guide so that each room would have a different "wall paper" and we would not have to recut the slip to slip the cardboard pieces together.
Then we repeated for the other side of the cardboard, paint then wallpaper.

Then we trimmed the scrapbook paper off.
We also did 2 other pieces of cardboard that would be the floor. We put scrapbook paper on those also, but they were the same color.

This is the bedroom all decorated. The moon is a wooden thing that I bought at joanns a long time ago. The flowers are cardboard scrapbook stickers. Thats a brad that is holding up the pipe cleaner hanger. And the butterfly is a felt sticker.

Here is "Itty Bitty" enjoying her new bed. I followed the same idea as the walls and used extra cardboard to make a bed. The flower fabric is her duvet (Scrap fabric) and of course she needed a pillow. I under estimated Itty Bittys height....oops :)
Here is the kitchen. This is just a snack box that I cut in half. One is the counter the other is the fridge. The white paper is a clock cause Itty Bitty needed to tell time I guess :), another pipe cleaner this time it is a heart. And a wooded cake.
The dining room sports a toilet paper/cardboard table (the toilet paper roll was cut into half (see the other half in the other "room" its an end table. ANd the empty spool of thread is Itty Bittys seat.
The sofa is made the same way as the bed. The "lamp" is the empty bottle of glues lid. The tv is 4 pipe cleaners made to look like a tv.
And my DD just loved the house. She thought it was perfect. It took us a couple of hours to assemble everything and then it took a couple hours for her to destroy the house. I warned her that if she bent the walls that it would break. Guess what?!? I was right. Now she wants a new one.

Halloween Grave Jello Cake

Sorry the picture is a little blurry.

This cake I made for my hubbys birthday a couple of years ago and thought you all would like to see it. It was tons of fun to make and I am considering making another one this year.

Ingredients
1 lg package of jello (dark red or purple or blue)
1 or 2 cake mixes (I used chocolate)
Whipping cream
Headstone (I found mine at walmart but you could just get foam and spray paint it black and touch it up with a little gray paint)
Candy (like candy corn, ghost peeps, candy pumpkins, worms)
Plastic skeletons (I also found these at walmart during halloween)
Plastic bugs (Unless you can find something to make bugs with out of candy)
1 bag coconut
food coloring

Instructions:
  1. bake your favorite cake according to directions in a 9x13 pan. You could do 2 cakes if you want and then stack them. I used betty crocker cake mixes cause I am lazy :) (I did chocolate so it looked more like dirt but whatever will do.
  2. let your cake cool. And remove them from the pan
  3. Stack your cakes. Make sure to put some frosting or whipping cream in the middle to hold them together.
  4. Cut out the center of your cake. If you are using 2 cakes then cut the entire center out of one of the cakes and don't cut the 2nd one. If you are only using one then cut down halfway through the cake. Cut so that you have 2-3 inches from the whole to the outside of the cake on the long ways and about an inch on the short ways. I think that you can tell from the picture.
  5. place a couple of skeletons and bugs into the hole that you have made
  6. Make jello (I used either grape or something dark and purple or red) according to directions. Let halfway set up in the fridge. Then pour jello into hole in cake. make sure to cover the skeletons unless you want a hand or something hanging out :)
  7. Frost cake with whipping cream (I make homemade stuff)
  8. Put 2 c. coconut in a container and a couple of drops of green food coloring in. Let the kids shake it until all the coconut is green
  9. Sprinkle the coconut onto the cake.
  10. Decorate with the candy and plastic bugs and skeletons
  11. I used the candy corn to line the outside of the cake.
  12. Now you have a great cake for halloween

If I missed something please let me know. I hope you enjoy making this really fun cake

Birthday Cake

It will be my sisters birthday next week but we were with her in AZ this last week so we threw her a surprise b-day party. I made her a really cute cake with the wilton cupcake cake tin. It is called the Giant Cupcake Pan. So much fun. You can find it here and most stores that have wilton have this pan.
I think for my dd birthday (in 6 months :) I will use this tin or the one that is smaller than it (I think it has 3 cupcakes in the pan) to make her a princess castle. I found my inspiration here
