Blog Swap with Get Your Craft On

I'm sooo excited to be swapping blogs with Bobbie today! My name is Lynette and I'm the crafty crazy lady behind Get Your Craft On. Bobbie and I thought it would be fun to change things up a bit and answer a few fun questions for a our swap today. Here we go:

What is your favorite spot in your home? Why? Well, this is an easy one...my sewing room!!! It totally beats the kitchen table that my sewing machine use to sit on....now I have a whole room! I absolutely love my sewing room and I'm instantly happy when I walk into it...cheesy, I know.

What is your favorite song of all time? Okay, now this question is totally hard! I love music, how can I pick just one?? It depends on what type we're talking about. I really have an eclectic taste, but I'm not a huge fan of country or rap. I actually really like church music, but if I had to pick what song we listen to the most LATELY, it would have to be Lady GaGa's 'Bad Romance'. That darn song is so catchy, how can you not like it? RaRaRaAAA!!

Would you rather your hair up or down? How about no hair? Just kidding. I think it looks cuter when it's down, but I'm happier when it's up.

What is your favorite project from your blog? One of my favorite projects was my Mod Podge Ceiling Fan. I know I'm not the first to come up with this idea, but I had never seen it before. I thought it was soo fun and I love having it in my sewing room!

My most favorite recent sewing project was definitely this dress. I love the way it turned out...and I'm not afraid of knits anymore!!

What project are you working on RIGHT now? I'm working on some fun little girl apron's for our shop. We have a big show in May and so I'm trying to stock up. I need to make some little boy aprons next. Anyone need an apron?

What is your favorite type of craftiness? Definitely sewing! I started sewing shortly after my son was born (he's 4 1/2 now!) and I haven't stopped yet! There's just something about all the endless possibilities and creativity with sewing...I love it! I've been having a lot of fun repurposing things lately too. Here's a cute dress I made from old shirts...they look much cuter on her, don't you think? Oh yeah, I have two crazy kids!

That's all...or should I say that's enough! Thanks again Bobbie for a fun swaperoo!

Have a great weekend!!

Thanks so much to Lynette for this blog swap! It was really fun coming up with the answers to the questions :)

Happy Friday Everyone!

Hey All!

Just wanted to pop in and say HI :). Also, I am on the lookout for people to swap blogs with. If you are interested please send me an email at boblyns at yahoo dot com.

I hope you all have a great day...I know I am. I have sewed 3 blankets, in the process of 2. One is a new pattern that I am working on and the other I am testing a pattern for a lady that I know. It is turning out divine and I will let you know more info when it is completed.

On another note (the other reason I am having a great day) my baby has REFUSED to take a nap without me holding her all week. Right now she is sleeping all by herself in my bed (not the safest place, but I do check on her regularly and she is in the room right next to me so I can hear her). So I am able to get a ton done while she sleeps.

Now I am off to figure out what is for dinner...pork something or other. I am just hoping for some inspiration

Beaded Letter Tutorial

Remember last friday? I swapped blogs with Making the world Cuter

Here is the post that I sent to her...I hope you enjoy it :) Have a great Monday
Hello! I am excited to be blog swapping with Tiffany today. I am Bobbie with A Vision to Remember by I am only 1 woman.

Here are a couple of things that I have made over at my blog:

Tutorial for a Stroller Caddy (this also works great for those Umbrella Strollers or shopping carts. You can even use it for an apron)
Wired Ribbon Flower Tutorial

Faux Buttons tutorial
I also make clothing for my 2 girlies a lot.

I also sew a ton of blankets (isn't my girl just adorable :)

Today I am going to share with you a simple thing you can do with metal or wooden letters.

My husband brought these letters home from a demo job that they did a couple of months ago. He immediately thought that I could spruce them up for our little girls (both of their names start with an A)Then I found these garlands of beads (you know those cheap mardi gras beads) at Michaels for $.20 each. I knew exactly what I could do with them

You will need some hot glue, some beads (you could also use black beans or something similar), large letters (I know that craft stores have these letters in wood, they would work great)

Glue the beads to the letter. I found that the best way to do this is to outline the letter with the beads, then fill in rest of the letter.
I even put beads on the sides (but not the bottom cause I don't know if I am going to have these stand up by themselves)

Spray paint the letters (and yes I could not wait til spring to do this :). I used regular spray paint and it started to peel off. I would recommend using plastic spray paint so this does not happen to you. You could also prime them first.
Now you have some really cute letters. Now what to do with those really cute letters?

I hope to see you around! Thanks again for swapping blogs with me and I hope to see you all on Saturday for the Check me out saturday link party!

What Fabric Do I Use for Rag Quilts

Make sure to join me at the link party below...or click here. It is CHECK ME OUT SATURDAYS! I would love to see each and everyone of your projects or what is going on with you :)

I think the question that I receive the most about rag quilts is: What type of fabrics do you use?

The answer is: basically anything that will fray....

Your next question I know is: How do I know if a fabric will fray?

Answer: on the bolt of fabric it will say something like 100% cotton or quilters or flannel.

I like to use 100% cotton fabrics because they fray the best. Some of the solid fabrics that I use do have polyester in them. The polyester in fabrics will keep the fabric from fraying.

Minky is a favorite fabric for baby blankets because it is so soft. Go ahead and use it in rag quilts if you want the softness. Just keep in mind that it will not fray. The same thing with fleece. It makes a blanket really soft but it will not fray.

Here is the lowdown on the fabric I use:
I mix and match fabrics. I basically use anything that is quilt worthy for the blankets. I use a lot of broadcloth (some of it has some polyester in it), flannel (mostly from Joanns), and 100% cotton fabric.

Where do I purchase my fabric? I purchase from 4 places for 75% of my fabric. They are Home Fabrics which is a discount fabric store for fabrics that were overprinted or have problems with it), Joanns, Walmart (our walmart has a small fabric section and I purchase flannel there that I cannot find at Joanns), and Hobby Lobby (be careful at hobby lobby if you want fabric that frays because their really CUTE fabric most likely has polyester in it).

The remainder of the fabric I purchase is at quilt shops, but their fabric is pricey compared to the other stores. Their fabric is to die for. So when I find fabric at these shops that I just have to have, I try and find coordinating fabrics from the other stores. That I don't break the bank so to say.

Let me know if you have any questions. Where are your favorite places to shop for fabric online and off? I would love to know

Blog Swap with Making the World Cuter

Hello Making the World Cuter Fans! It is great to "see" you. I hope you love what you see and take a minute to look around. I

Now onto introducing Tiffany. I am super excited to be swapping blogs with her today.

Hello all you Vision readers!
I am excited to be swapping with Bobbie today-she's got some fantastic ideas!
Let me introduce myself.
I'm Tiffany, you can call me Tiff.

...and I take pictures here at Pumpernickel Buttons. Photography.
I am mom to these 3 little munchkins who keep me on my toes, and expecting baby #4 this fall!
I have a little tutorial for you today...I had my first doctors appointment yesterday, and it was going to be a long one-especially dragging my kids along for the ride.
I needed something new for them to do to hold their interest longer than one of their existing things I have made them.
I grabbed a cracked old clipboard and painted the backside with chalkboard paint to begin with.
Then I took a fat quarter and cut it to be a little bigger than the clipboard. Then I folded over the edges and pressed and sewed them all the way around.
With more of that same fat quarter I made a little pocket on the piece of fabric.
Then I sewed straight lines up the pocket to make a place to put crayons, a pencil and some chalk. I made a bigger pocket to put a piece of felt to use as an eraser.
With a hole punch, I measured where the fabric would hit the clip of the clipboard and punched a hole. To make it more sturdy you could put a grommet or big eyelet-I just put a ribbon through both holes and tied it in a knot. Then using my glue gun I glued the edges down on the top.
The fabric serves two purposes, first of all a place to hold all of their stuff. Secondly, chalk is messy and this will protect their laps from all the dust when they are coloring on the paper.

I painted a tic tac toe board on the chalkboard with acrylic paint and stocked the front with lots of paper, the fabric can easily be flipped over the front or back-and the kids were good to go.
Of course I now need to make them each one of their own, and for the boys I think I will use mini-clip boards just for easier handling.

Thanks Bobbie again for the fun swap!

I hope to see you all come over and say hi to me,
and join in the party this Monday for Making the World Cuter Monday!

Thanks again Tiff for the great idea! It is super cute and I know that my Daughter would love one!
