Blog Swap with A Little Knick Knack

Today I would like to welcome Megan to my blog. She has a really great blog and I hope that you all will take a quick trip over to hers and say hello and see what I was up to....

Wow, I'm so excited to be here today at Bobbie's awesome blog! She has one amazing memory, because we agreed to do this blog swap AGES ago and guess who remembered? Bobbie! Yup, that's right....in other words, not me. Luckily, I was working on a fun little project and I can't wait to share it with you!

First, let me introduce myself. I'm Meg, from A Little Knick Knack. I am currently a midwest, stay-at-home-mom to 3 children (all under the age of 4), that keep me on my toes, but I wouldn't have it any other way! Finding time to make my house a home is what I enjoy most (and playing with my kiddos). Sharing these things through blogland is so much fun, and I'm so happy I can share some things with you today.

I have a fun bench on my teeny, tiny, itsy-bitsy front porch. My friends husband made it for me and I love the simplicity of it. I had fun painting and decorating it (check out my post HERE). But, it was sad, alone, lacking...something.

Enter all these empty pots I had from a failed attempt at a container garden last year (I will try again! I promise!).

I love flowers, so I decided to beautify my pots and make my little porch a bit brighter. I painted 2 of the pots with chalkboard paint. I LOVE chalkboard paint. You can do so much with it!

One I painted a nice, light white and the other, the same cornflower blue I used to paint the bench.

After they all dried, I decided they needed a tad more....something, so I decided to add some jute to the top of a few pots by simply tying and knotting them in the front. With the chalkboard pots, I added a free-handed "welcome."

....or you could make it a little more in tune with the season...

The white pot I had fun putting a little No. 5 (the number of people in my family...is there any good reason for picking random numbers?). I used the same method many use....I found a nice stencil and traced it in pencil on the pot. Then, I used my trusty black paint pen to fill it in. Nice...and easy!

After that, it was simply finding the right plants to put in the pot. My son and I had fun picking out some gorgeous flowers and I can't wait to see them grow and bloom as the summer goes on!

The tray I found at my favorite store in the whole world, Hobby Lobby, and lugged it all the way home from Texas.

I think it all came together....beautifully!

Feel free to check out my blog for a fun giveaway! And, THANK YOU BOBBIE for this awesome opportunity to talk to your faithful readers!

Thanks Megan! It looks like we both have a bad obsession with Hobby Lobby ... good thing I don't have one locally either :)

Remember to stop by tomorrow for another installment of Check ME Out Saturday. I can't wait to see what everyone has been up to

Candy Themed Baby Shower

A really good friend of mine adopted a baby recently and we threw her a baby shower. I just HAD to decorate with candy. I have been wanting to for a really long time all I needed was a party :)
I just used random bowls and vases that I had and filled them up with candy from the bulk bins at Winco. For the larger bowls I put a cottage cheese container inside so that I did not have to fill the entire jar up with candy. It worked out really great.
To create the height I used boxes, Styrofoam, and books. Then I covered with 72 inch square tablecloths that I use for wedding decorations (pieces of fabric would work very well also)

Those large lollipops my Mother in Law found at Fred Meyer for $1.00 a piece. I looked at our local candy shop and the same ones were over $5 a piece.
I just love those large gummi butterflies. I really did not know how I would use them, but I just HAD to get them. They are so cute I have not even tasted one to see if they are any good

I have often found that when I decorate with food/candy that the guests will not eat it. So if you decorate like this plan on taking most of the decorations home with you :) I ended up giving 1/2 of it away to some of my family so that I would not eat it all this week (which may or may not have happened with the remainder of the candy :)

Coconut Cookies

Today I am going to share with you how to make some delicious cookies. These were one of my favorites growing up. The other day I asked my mom for the recipe and made myself a batch.

Let me just say that they are A--MA-ZING
Coconut Cookies
1/2 cup butter
2 cups sugar
2 egg whites
3 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp Karo Syrup
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups flour
3 cups coconut
1 cup white chocolate chips

Cream butter, sugar, and eggs. Add karo syrup, vanilla. Add baking powder, salt and flour. Fold in coconut and white chocolate chips. Bake at 350 till golden brown.

The chocolate chips were not original to this recipe...they are my little surprise. I love the combination of coconut and white chocolate. Another note is that this batter is really crumbly. I think when I make it next time I will only add 2 1/2 cups flour, but I have not tried it yet so I don't know how it will work for sure.

Blog Swap with Scraps and Scribbles

Hello all! I'm Courtney from Scraps and Scribbles.

I am so excited to be swapping blogs with Bobbie. Isn't she so amazing?! Just a bit about me: I'm a stay-at-home mom of one adorable 18-month-old boy who keeps me on my toes. I love crafting, sewing, cooking and photography. You can find out more about me if you'd like over at my blog

Pleated Circle T-Shirt Re-vamp

Today I'm sharing with you a simple way to dress up your plain Jane t-shirts. Pleated circles are all the rage.

We've all seen these cute "yo-yos," both in blogs and in stores. They're really easy to make and best part is they're also fast! To make some to dress up your shirt (or whatever else you have that needs some dressing up,) you'll need:

Fabric

Something round to trace

Needle and matching thread

Scissors

I had this pretty blue t-shirt that needed something. I thought this would be the perfect shirt to try out those cute pleated circles on. Sorry for the poor picture quality-it was dark and rainy outside the day I made this and our interior lights just wash everything out in photos.

I chose three fabrics that I liked and three round objects to trace.

I used a bowl for one of my circles. Using my pencil, I traced it on the back side of my fabric, then cut it out.

Taking my needle and thread, I sewed along the edge, about1/4 inch in, all the way around the circle.

Then pulled the thread to gather it together. Fold flat, with the gathered area in the middle.

Like this. Then iron flat.

Arrange them on your shirt and sew in place. I moved mine around a bit til I found an arrangement that I liked.

And you're done!

Thanks so much for having me over, Bobbie! I hope you all enjoyed this! I know I sure did!

That is so dang cute! Love it thanks for sharing and remember to not forget to link up to Check me Out Saturday tomorrow. Again I know that there will be so many dang cute ideas!
